Apple no longer signing iOS 11.4.1, downgrade to iOS 11 is impossible

With the release of the iOS 12 or any new software update, Apple intends to stops signing older firmwares in order to let users update their iOS devices. Earlier today, Apple has stopped signing iOS 11.4.1 which makes it impossible to downgrade back to iOS 11.

This doesn’t impact the jailbreak community much, as the latest public jailbreak only encompasses iOS 11.3.1. Nevertheless, anyone who isn’t happy with the iOS 12 experience will now be forced to hold their peace, as there’s no way to back to iOS 11.

Apple routinely pulls this stunt following a certain number of iOS updates to prevent downgrades. The primary reason is to force iPhone and iPad users to upgrade to newer versions of iOS, as they often contain the latest bug fixes and security vulnerability patches.

Many jailbreak tools depend on these so-called security vulnerabilities, which is why jailbreakers are generally advised not to update to a newer firmware unless a public jailbreak is already available for it.

Apple is currently only signing iOS 12 so users who have upgraded to iOS 12.0.1 can downgrade back to it. However, given that iOS 12.0.1 brings about some major bug fixes, I doubt anyone would want to downgrade from it.

So what do you think ? Were you looking forward to downgrade back to iOS 11?
